All under heaven say my Way is great, yet it seems unconventional.
It is precisely because it is great that it seems unconventional.
If it resembled the conventional, it would have long since become insignificant.
How subtle and fine it is! I have three treasures, which I hold and protect.
The first is compassion, the second is frugality, and the third is not daring to take the lead in the world.
Through compassion, one can be courageous; through frugality, one can be generous; by not daring to take the lead in the world, one can become a vessel of long-lasting leadership.
Now, to abandon compassion yet try to be brave; to abandon frugality yet try to be generous; to abandon humility yet try to lead - this is death! For compassion brings victory in battle and strength in defense.
Heaven will save them and protect them through compassion.
