Reconciling a great grievance will surely leave some grievance behind; how can this be considered good?
Therefore, the sage holds the left side of the contract, but does not demand from others.
The virtuous oversee contracts, the virtueless oversee exactions.
The Way of Heaven shows no favoritism, yet it constantly aligns with the virtuous.
