When reconciling a great grievance, there will surely remain residual resentment; how can this be considered a good solution?
Therefore the sage holds the left tally, yet does not demand repayment from others.
Those with virtue oversee the tally; those without virtue oversee the collection.
The Way of Heaven shows no favoritism, yet constantly supports those who are good.
