Chapter 76
The Way of Heaven - is it not like the drawing of a bow?
What is high, it presses down; what is low, it lifts up. What has excess, it diminishes; what is insufficient, it supplements.
The Way of Heaven diminishes what has excess and supplements what is insufficient.
The Way of Humanity, however, is not so - it diminishes the insufficient to serve the excessive.
Who is able to take from their own surplus to serve all under Heaven? Only one who embodies the Way.
Thus the sage acts without relying on the results, accomplishes without dwelling in achievement, and has no desire to display their worthiness.
