Chapter 61

Index
The Dao is the profound mystery of all things.
It is the treasure of the virtuous and the safeguard of the non-virtuous.
Beautiful words can be traded in the marketplace; honorable conduct can elevate a person.
Even for those who are not good, why abandon them?
Therefore, establish the Son of Heaven, appoint the Three Dukes, and even if one were to offer jade discs and teams of four horses, it is not as good as sitting and advancing this Way.
Why did the ancients value this Way?
Is it not said: 'Through it one may attain without seeking, and escape from the guilty without fleeing'?
Therefore, it is valued by all under heaven.
