Fame or your body—which is more intimate to you?
Your body or possessions—which is of greater worth?
Gaining or losing—which brings greater affliction?
Therefore, excessive love inevitably brings great expenditure; hoarding much inevitably brings heavy loss.
Knowing sufficiency, one avoids disgrace; knowing when to stop, one avoids danger—thus one can endure long.
