Chapter 12

Index
Favor and disgrace both cause alarm; value great trouble as you value your own body.
What is meant by 'favor and disgrace both cause alarm'?
Favor is a lowly position: receiving it causes alarm, losing it causes alarm. This is what is meant by 'favor and disgrace both cause alarm.'
What is meant by 'valuing great trouble as if it were your own body'?
The reason I have great trouble is because I have a body. If I had no body, what trouble could I have?
Therefore, one who values the world as they value their own body may be entrusted with the world; one who loves the world as they love their own body may be given the care of the world.
